This is from an exclusive JTBC news report (12/12/25).

Park Sung-jae (박성재), the justice minister under former president (and drunken disgraced proto-insurrectionist) Yoon Suk-yeol (윤석열), is currently being investigated by the special prosecution team for his role in the December 4 insurrection attempt. The prosecutors are analyzing his phone, and they found that he (Park) had direct communications with ex-first lady (and generally awful human being) Kim Keun-hee (김건희).

This requires a little context.

First Lady Kim was caught on a hidden camera accepting an expensive gift (a Christian Dior handbag) in return for favors. This led to Lee Won-seok (이원석) (note: the prosecutor general (검찰총장), not the baseball player) deciding to do the right thing and set up a prosecution team to investigate the alleged bribery. And, as we all know, doing the right thing was a rare occurrence in the Yoon administration - and does not end well for the well-doer.

Yoon, enraged that his prosecutor general would show even a smidgen of independence by investigating his wife, decides to put the squeeze on him. He tells his justice minister, Park, to tell Lee to resign voluntarily. Lee refuses to do so. Yoon tells Park that Lee "개겼다" (resisting, not doing as you're told). By the way, Yoon knows all about this, given that he himself was the prosecutor general engaged in some uber-개기-ing of his own, and used it as a platform to win the presidency.

Given that his prosecutor general was resisting his demands to resign, Yoon did the next best thing and undermined him by replacing the whole investigative branch of the Central District Prosecutors' Office ("총장 passing" as the Koreans would say).

What we now know from Park's phone is that Park received a message from Kim Ju-hyun (김주현), Yoon's Chief Secretary (민정수석), thanking him for a job well done in making the personnel changes. Moreover, after Lee ordered the establishment of the investigative team looking into the Dior handbag business (May 2nd, 2024), First Lady Kim sent a message via Telegram to Park a few days later (May 5th, 2024). The head of the criminal investigation planning department (형시기획과장) sent Park a report on the Dior investigation on May 5th, 2024, and eight days later the personnel of the entire investigative branch is replaced (May 13th, 2024). On the evening of the same day, First Lady Kim contacts Park directly.

Now, it will be surprising to absolutely no-one that Kim Keun-hee was actively involved in derailing her own bribery investigation by putting pressure on the justice minister in her husband's cabinet. The interesting thing is that this is all coming out as part of the work being done by the special investigators looking into the Dec 4 insurrection. Kim Keun-hee has always denied that she had anything to do with planning the insurrection - although anyone with half a brain would find that a bit difficult to believe. But now the special investigative vultures are starting to circle. Kim has enough problems (bribery, stock manipulation, election interference) without being implicated in the insurrection, but her life may be getting even more difficult.
